The Griffin Poetry Prize Deadline: December 31, annually
Eligibility: Applications must originate directly form publishers, who may enter an unlimited number of entries. Only books of poetry written by authors or translators alive at the time of publication will be considered.
To be eligible for the International prize, a book of poetry must be a first-edition poetry collection written in English, or translated into English, by a poet/translator from any part of the world, which may include Canada, with no less than five hundred copies published in the calendar year of submission.
To be eligible for the Canadian prize, a book of poetry must be a first-edition poetry collection written in English or translated into English by a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident in Canada, with a print run of no less than five hundred copies published in the calendar year of submission. Books must be published in English at any time in the calendar year preceding the year of the award.
Value: Two literary prizes worth $40,000 each will be awarded annually for collections of poetry published in English during the preceding year. One prize will go to a living Canadian poet, the other to a living poet from any other country, which may include Canada.

Description: The Griffin Trust was created to serve and encourage excellence in poetry written in English anywhere in the world. The Griffin Trust is a Canadian initiative founded in April, 2000 by Scott Griffin, its Chairman, with Trustees Margaret Atwood, Robert Hass, Michael Ondaatje, Robin Robertson and David Young. The purpose of The Griffin Trust is to raise public awareness of the crucial role poetry must play in society's cultural life.
Further Details: Distinguished poets Michael Longley, Sharon Olds and Sharon Thesen will judge entries from around the world for The Griffin Poetry Prize 2003.
