Education News Writers and Photographers of Alberta Awards Deadline: February, annually
Eligibility: Weekly Newspapers: This award is presented to an Alberta weekly newspaper for excellence in journalism and photography. Daily Newspapers: Presented to a daily newspaper, this award is given to journalists and photographers for in-depth, extensive coverage of a variety of local and provincial education news.
Value: Weekly Newspapers: The publisher of the selected newspaper will be presented with a plaque. Writers will receive a certificate of merit and a cash prize of $100 for each winning story for up to four stories. Photographers receive a cash prize of $200.
Daily Newspapers: The recipients of the award in the journalism and photography categories will be presented with a certificate of merit, a cash prize and a plaque for the publisher of the newspaper. Journalists receive $400, Photographers receive $200.

Description: Alberta's newspapers play an important role in presenting current educational issues and in promoting public awareness of education and its processes. To recognize excellence in this field, the Alberta Teachers' Association instituted the Education News Writers of Alberta Awards. These annual awards are presented for outstanding coverage of education news by daily and weekly newspapers.
