Peace Groups Hold Vigil at Chrystia Freeland's Toronto Constituency OfficeJune 14, 2017June 14, 2017 (Toronto) - Peace Groups will hold a Ban the Bomb Vigil at the constituency office of Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, 344 Bloor Street West, on Saturday June 17 from 12 to 1 pm.The groups are protesting the government's boycott of ongoing negotiations at the United Nations of a treaty outlawing nuclear weapons. There will be marches on behalf of the proposed UN treaty in cities around the world. "Minister Freeland announced a new autonomous Canadian foreign policy independent of President Trump and the US in Parliament last week," says Lyn Adamson of the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace. "But the Canadian government's boycott of the UN Ban the Bomb treaty negotiations is exactly what the US government stipulated for its NATO allies." The Ban the Bomb Vigil at 344 Bloor St. W. (intersection of Spadina and Bloor) is being organized by groups including the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace, Science for Peace, the Hiroshima Nagasaki Day Coalition, and the Quaker Social Action Committee. "We have convened this protest vigil at the office of our Foreign Affairs Minister to convey our profound disappointment that our government would take such a stand," says Rob Acheson of Science for Peace. "Canadians expect and deserve much better than this from our elected leaders." - 30 - Information: Lyn Adamson, Co-Chair, Canadian Voice of Women for Peace, 416-731-6605; lyn.adamson9@gmail.com info@vowpeace.org or telephone 416-603-7915 Rob Acheson, Science for Peace, 905-706-3741; robach@rogers.com For more information contact: Lyn Adamson Co-chair Canadian Voice of Women for Peace Phone: 416-731-6605 Cell: 416 731 6605 Email: lyn.adamson9@gmail.com Website: vowpeace.org Rob Acheson Member Science for Peace Phone: 905-706-3741 Cell: 905-706-3741 Email: robach@rogers.com Website: vowpeace.org Click here to view our Sources Listing: Canadian Voice of Women for PeaceTopics:
