Canadian Voice of Women for Peace Asks Where is Canada?
On July 7, 2017, 122 countries voted to adopt the historic Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons-- a landmark international agreement that outlaws, categorically, the worst weapons of mass destruction, and establishes a pathway to their elimination. Canada didnt attend the vote and has not supported the treaty. Fortunately, its not too late to do otherwise.
The treaty will open for signature at UN Headquarters in New York on 20 September 2017, during the High-Level Segment of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly. We, Canadian Voice of Women for Peace, call on you to sign this historic treaty.
We urge our government to stand up for Canadas peacemaking values and our commitment to multilateralism and disarmament by signing the treaty on September 20. By signing the treaty, Canada has the opportunity to take on an outstanding role in helping to eliminate nuclear weapons, the most dangerous weapons on Earth.
