Sources News Release Support the new Independent Media Centre of Montreal!November 17, 2008Announcing the Friends of the IMC project!A new Independent Media Centre (IMC) has opened in downtown Montreal! Situated just above the anarchist bookstore l′Insoumise at 2035 St-Laurent, the IMC project launched on September 20th, 2008. We are now open 6 days a week, and we invite everyone to come by and check us out! The IMC aims to be a multi-purpose space for activists and independent journalists working for social change. You can find our complete basis of unity below. So far, the space is outfitted with 4 computer terminals, wireless internet, and a video-viewing corner. We are hoping to vastly expand the project over the next few months to include regular film screenings, workshops, video and radio editing hardware, and more. On top of all of that, the IMC is an open space available to progressive activist organizations that need a comfortable and central space to hold meetings. However, our financial means are very limited, and this is why we are appealing for your financial support. Here are a few tangible ways you could support the IMC: -- Become a "Friend of the IMC" Friends of the IMC will make monthly donations for one year to project in order to sustain our work. If 50 people can donate $10 per month, we can pay our rent ($400/month) for a whole year, plus cover other day-to-day expenses. Please email us at info-cmi@revolte.biz to indicate if you would like to be our friend! -- Make a one-time donation of $5, $50, $100, or whatever you can afford! Cheques can be made out to: "Centre pour l′autonomie médiatique", and mailed to: Independent Media Center, 2035 St-Laurent, Montreal, QC, H2X 2T3 -- In-kind donations: Have any equipment you′re looking to get rid of? We′re looking for computer mice, mouse pads, printers, microphones, hard-drives of 20GB or more, minidisc-recorders, old cameras, filing cabinets, office supplies, and more. Contact info-cmi@revolte.biz if you have anything to donate. Thank you for taking the time to consider supporting this important project! In solidarity, The IMC-Montreal collective (The IMC-Montreal is a working group of QPIRG-Concordia – www.qpirgconcordia.org) Mission Statement of the Montreal Independent Media Centre * The mission of the Montreal Independent Media Centre (IMC-Montreal, or Montreal Indymedia) is to facilitate the production and dissemination of independent media coming from a perspective of direct support to popular movements for economic and social justice. Our participation in the international Indymedia network contributes to a global, decentralized communications network. We seek to offer a space for the expression of diverse social movements and thus diffuse a panoply of intellectual, scientific, artistic, literary, social, cultural and creative expressions otherwise ignored by the commercial media. By providing a collection of alternative resources and knowledge to the community, we hope to nourish a collective autonomy. We support the autonomy of individuals, groups and communities that are under represented in the commercial media, while bringing to light progressive analysis of contemporary issues and their effects on ecosystems, communities, and individuals. Our objective is to make a positive contribution to a radical transformation of society, in order to put life before profits. Finally, we choose to relate to each other as equals, in non-hierarchical relations in the spirit of mutual aid and solidarity.
