The Workplace Health and Safety Agency was established in 1991 to develop and deliver health and safety programs for Ontario managers and workers. Among the Agency's major responsibilities is the development and administration of the certification training program. More than 30,000 workers and managers have taken the training.
The Agency has also developed a Musculoskeletal Injuries Prevention Program (MIPP) to combat the rising incidence of repetitive strain injuries. The Agency funds, directs and oversees organizations which deliver training and promotes public awareness of workplace health and safety issues. It is governed by a bipartite Board of Directors with equal representation from labour and management.
