LiberationLiberation was a left-wing magazine that produced 10 issues annually (monthly except March/April and July/August). The magazine was published in New York from 1956-1977 and was founded by Dave Dellinger and A.J. Muste. Liberation supported the Cuban Revolution, unilateral nuclear disarmament, and SDS while working against the Vietnam War. Liberation featured writing by Paul Goodman, Andre Gorz, Todd Gitlin, Noam Chomsky, Allen Ginsberg, among others. While jailed in Birmingham, Alabama in the summer of 1962 for nonviolent protest, Martin Luther King Jr. penned his "Letter from Birmingham Jail." The New York Times passed on the letter and it was subsequently published by Liberation and several other outlets.
Collection of Liberation includes, in part, v10(3-4,9-10), v12(1-2), v15(1), v17(2,6,9), v18(1-3,5-8,10), v19(4-5,8-10), and v20(1-3,6).
