WHAT: The Navy League of Canada will be presenting the Hon. John James Kinley Award for Maritime Affairs to the crew of Canadian Coast Guard Ship Sir William Alexander, in recognition of their outstanding performance on Operation Unison, Canada's contribution to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

WHERE: Ramada Plaza Hotel, 75 rue Edmonton, Gatineau, QuÉbec.

WHO: Senior officials from The Navy League of Canada, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Canadian Coast Guard and Canadian Forces will be on hand to honour the ship and meet some of her crew.

WHEN: FRIDAY, MARCH 3RD, 2006, FROM 12:00 P.M. to 1:30 P.M

WHY: CCGS Sir William Alexander has been selected as our 2005 recipient, in recognition of the exceptional performance of her crew during Operation Unison, Canada's contribution to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. The unique ability of the ship and her crew led to the Sir William Alexander's mission being extended to 46 days. In challenging operational conditions, Sir William Alexander delivered relief supplies and played a significant role in repairing the United States Aids to Navigation System. This included replacing several weather warning buoys that allowed for the early warning of other storms, such as Hurricanes Rita and Wilma.
