In this situation, the model is faced with the predicament of choosing between remaining in an uncomfortable tiptoe position, or setting her weight down on her feet and having her nipples and hair painfully pulled by the ropes.

Predicament bondage is the art of restraining a person by bondage in such a way that there is a limited number of positions in which they can be, each of which are so uncomfortable that they are forced to shift their weight or position. Upon doing so, they place themselves in the other equally uncomfortable position. This type of bondage is used in BDSM and power exchange play.^[1][2][3]

A form of edge play,^[4] it puts the subject between "a rock and a hard place" in having to choose or alternate between the two positions, each of which carry their own pain.^[5] The default position is typically intended to cause muscle fatigue, such as standing on tiptoe, which forces the subject to choose a more physically painful position, for example letting themselves lower their weight and stand regularly while forcing a rope attached to their genitals to pull taut and cause pain.^[1]

An example would be when a subject is tied in such a position so that remaining still will not cause any discomfort, but moving their body will pull on ropes, weights or other devices meant to cause them pain. The subject could then be tickled, sexually pleasured or otherwise enticed to move uncontrollably.^[6]

Other examples will force the subject to stand on tiptoe by tying their hands, breasts or hair to an upper point, or in a hunched position by tying their genitals or thighs to a lower point; both of which will become uncomfortable in a brief time - but they are faced with pain if they try to fix their posture.^[6]
