CMPA Changes Name to Magazines Canada

TORONTO (CMPA) - Canadian Magazine Publishers Association (CMPA) is pleased to announce it has changed its name to Magazines Canada.

The name change reflects the association's new essence and is broad enough to suit the ever-evolving business/cultural environment. Magazines Canada also works in both official languages, reflecting not only the growth of the association's French language magazine members, but also its national scope. It is specific enough to explain what Magazines Canada does and who it serves, and at the same time, cannot be turned into an unclear acronym that says nothing to people unfamiliar with the association and its activities.

"Magazines Canada was integrated into CMPA as the association's advertising services division in 2003," said Mark Jamison, the association's CEO. "Since then, the association has not only successfully taken on advertising services activity, but it has also enhanced its Ottawa presence, developed a small magazines project office, expanded consumer marketing activity, added several new professional development programs, and provided tenant space and shared services to the National Magazine Awards Foundation."

Members voted upon the name change during the annual general meeting on June 9, 2005.

In July, Magazines Canada will unveil a new logo; a crisp, fresh website at www.magazinescanada.ca; and other communication tools to reflect the association's rebranding.
