MEDIA ADVISORY:
Launch of Vote for a Change Campaign
and
Pledge to Invest in the Canada We Want
(Toronto) December 30, 2005 - Rather than bribe voters with their
own money, the Vote for a Change campaign believes that we cannot
afford tax cuts when there are so many needs not being met in this
country.
The federal government is not meeting its national responsibilities
towards children and seniors, not providing affordable housing,
health care or education. It is not protecting the environment or
contributing development assistance consistent with Canadian values
and international obligations.
In an effort to fight this trend, on January 4, 2006, Vote for
a Change will launch a pledge to Invest in the Canada We Want. The
pledge makes the point that taxes are a good investment, and calls
on Canadians to
vote for social justice, not tax cuts. Please join Vote for a Change
and its partners as they set out to collect signatures on the pledge.
Partners include Anglican Church of Canada,
Campaign Against Child Poverty,
Canadian AIDS Society,
Canadian Association of Food Banks,
