Transportation Leaders Honoured by TACOctober 23, 2012OTTAWA, Ontario (October 23, 2012) - The Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) is proud to announce the winners of the 2012 Canadian Transportation Awards (CTAP). Four awards were conferred for this year's program, which were co-presented at the closing banquet of the 2012 TAC Conference and Exhibition in Fredericton, New Brunswick by New Brunswick Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Claude Williams, and TAC President, Doug McNeil. The awards recognize leadership, excellence and achievement in all modes of the transportation sector, and winners are selected by an independent panel of judges representing the air, rail, marine and road modes.The coveted Transportation Person of the Year award is given to an individual who has assumed a leadership role contributing to the improvement or advancement of the transportation industry. This year's recipient is Mr. Gerry Forbes, President and Chief Engineer of Intus Road Safety Engineering Inc., for his active contributions to the advancement of road safety for more than 20 years. The Award of Excellence is presented to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the betterment of the transportation industry in terms of safety, sustainable development, research, technology, policy or corporate development. Biljana Rajlic, Vice-President at Hatch Mott MacDonald, was honoured for her outstanding contributions to the advancement of design, construction and safety of Canadian bridges. The Award of Achievement is conferred upon an individual who has made positive and measureable improvements to transportation through innovation and who has shown initiative on a particular project. As Director of Accessible Transportation for the Canadian Transportation Agency, Mary-Jane Gravelle works to improve the access for persons with disabilities within the federal transportation network. The Award of Academic Merit is given to an individual who has made a long-term contribution to the advancement of academic research and to the development of transportation leaders of the future. Dr. Eric Hildebrand Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of New Brunswick is this year's recipient, in recognition of his long-term contribution to the advancement of the academic field and to the development of future leaders in transportation. The Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) is a not-for-profit, membership-based association which serves as a neutral forum for exchanging ideas, information and knowledge on technical guidelines and best practices in Canada's transportation and roadways sectors.
