Province-wide fundaiser continues despite the rain

May 15, 2014

The 2014 ADCO Kids Helping Kids Walkathon is a province-wide fundraiser benefiting Ontario’s four regional children’s hospitals. It is taking place in communities across the province this month. The event is coordinated by the Association of Day Care Operators of Ontario. More than 10,000 children will be involved in raising awareness and funds for Toronto’s SickKids Hospital, McMaster Children’s Hospital, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and the London Children’s Health Foundation.

“The enthusiasm of the owners, managers, staff, families and children at ADCO member centres are what make this event possible,” explains Erla McCaig, this year’s volunteer chair and owner of Peekaboo Child Care in Kitchener.

“Almost every centre that participates in the ADCO Walkathon has a special connection to the children’s hospital they choose to support. Sometimes, a centre’s walk is about a child from the centre who is being treated at a particular hospital, sometimes it’s to show support for a family who has suffered the loss of a child, and sometimes it’s about an incredible story of survival. The ADCO Walkathon is a great way for children to learn about reaching out to others and giving back to the community.”

Since 1987, the ADCO Kids Helping Kids Walkathon has raised more than a million dollars for this most worthy cause. In 2013, donations totaled more than $70,000. For a complete list of child care programs participating in the event, please visit: www.childcaretoday.ca.
