Canadian Ethnocultural Council - Conseil Ethnoculturel du CanadaCelebrating Canadian Multiculturalism DayRelease date: June 27, 2022Toronto - June 27, 2022: The Government of Canada on November 13, 2002, by Royal Proclamation, declared June 27th of each year as Canadian Multiculturalism Day. It is a day to recognize, acknowledge and celebrate Canada’s rich diversity and significant contributions that the many ethnocultural communities have made and continue to make in shaping and enriching our great country, Canada. “Today’s society faces many challenges including the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic; the ongoing horrific war in the Ukraine; transgressions of human rights; and increasing incidents of hatred, racism and violence, which in one way or another have affected our existence and call into question the quality of life we live. We must continue to be ever more vigilant in preserving our priceless democratic values and constitutional rights and most importantly continue to build bridges of understanding that bring together all communities in respect and appreciation and thereby combat all forms of hatred, racism, violence and restore peace”, said Dominic Campione, President of the Canadian Ethnocultural Council (CEC). “As we celebrate Canadian Multiculturalism Day on this 27th day of June, let us reflect and give homage to not only all those people who have come from every corner of the world and by working together contributed to building this country of ours, but also to the precious values of equality, mutual respect and democracy that are at the forefront of our diversity and which make Canada such a great nation and the envy of the world. Multiculturalism is a cornerstone of our values and a very fundamental part of our Canadian identity. Let us together celebrate Multiculturalism Day and be proud of our rich diversity and at the same time embrace our identity and heritage”, concludes Dominic Campione, President. The Canadian Ethnocultural Council is a non-profit, non partisan coalition of national ethnocultural organizations. The CEC works to promote the understanding of the multicultural reality of Canada thereby ensuring equal opportunity and dignity for all Canadians regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, and ancestry, as defined in The Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Canadian Multiculturalism Act.
