
Right To Water - Maude Barlow To Speak At Ontario Water Conference, May 4

Maude Barlow, Chair, Council of Canadians, and recently appointed Special Advisor on Water to the President of the UN, will address the opening plenary of the Joint Annual Conference of the Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA) and the Ontario Municipal Water Association (OMWA), Monday, May 4 beginning at 8:30 a.m., Toronto Congress Centre, 650 Dixon Road, Etobicoke.
The often outspoken Barlow has long been a champion of water as a basic human right, and not a commodity to be bought, sold or traded to the highest bidder.
In addition to Barlow's key-note presentation, Ontario's Minister of the Environment, the Hon John Gerretsen will update water industry professionals on the province's recent initiatives and regulatory changes affecting the delivery of safe drinking water. Toronto Mayor David Miller will officially open the session and Toronto's Director of Water, Lou Di Gironimo, will outline the many challenges delivering water to the residences and businesses of Canada's largest city. Technical sessions Monday afternoon and Tuesday will cover the many aspects of sourcing, treating and delivering safe drinking water,
