This year's award was the first time that the medal was awarded to two members from one firm in the same year. The Law Society medal was awarded in a special ceremony on Wednesday, May 21, 2003. Mac Austin practised with the firm for 32 years before joining the Superior Court of Ontario in 1986.He transferred to the (Ontario) Court of Appeal in 1992, and remained there until his retirement from the bench in March 2003. He has joined the ADR Group at the firm and will be doing mediations and arbitrations. Malcolm is recognized as a leading practitioner in estate planning in Toronto in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and is Chair of the Estates Sub-Committee of the Civil Rules Committee of Ontario. He will receive the Award of Excellence at a special ceremony on December 1, 2003.
