Record-breaking Funds Raised for Brain Tumour Patients across CanadaJune 15, 2011(Canada, June 15) An outstanding 5,800 brain tumour patients and their supporters from across Canada have come together and raised a record-breaking $1.5 million for critical brain tumour research and patient programs during the recent Spring Sprint fundraising program. With more participants than ever, the 21 events across Canada broke Brain Tumour Foundation of Canadas records for dollars raised and participants at the events. With an estimated 55,000 Canadians affected by a brain tumour, there was one participant for every 10 Canadians affected. Each event is run by a dedicated group of local volunteers who are determined to improve the lives of those affected by a brain tumour. The events ran from April 16 and June 12, 2011 and featured a walk/run for walkers, joggers and runners. The prospect for all of the research that will be conducted as a result of the funds raised is very exciting, says Susan Marshall, Executive Director of Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. Our vision is to find a cure for brain tumours and to improve the quality of life for those affected and we all move closer to this reality with the efforts of Spring Sprint. Donations also support important education, information, and support for anyone affected by a brain tumour such as: monthly brain tumour support groups in communities across Canada; the BrainWAVE program - support for families with a child with a brain tumour; and education opportunities. Patient care is also improved with a variety of programs for health care professionals. These programs and services are run by Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada with the mission to reach every Canadian affected by a brain tumour with support, education, information and research. - 30 - Media Note: Interviews can be coordinated with volunteers and survivors from across Canada as well as national spokesperson Olympic Medalist Cheryl Bernard.
