The Canadian Ethnocultural Council, (CEC) its members and supporters are saddened by the passing of the Honourable Jack Layton, Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition and Leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada.Mr. Layton was a perceptive leader, aware of the common person's struggles, a champion of social justice and equality. His inclusive approach to community work and politics focused on bringing people of all backgrounds together with the common goal of making Canada a better place for all. He will be missed, but his final words of optimism and courage will resonate as guiding principles for a long time to come. The CEC extends deepest condolences to the Layton family, his wife Ms. Olivia Chow, their friends and colleagues. - 30 - The CEC is a non-profit, non-partisan coalition of national ethnocultural organizations.
