Winners of Award of Excellence for Comptrollership in the Public Sector announcedMay 11, 2012Certified Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada) and the U.K.-based Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) announce the 2012 winners of the Award of Excellence for Comptrollership in the Public Sector. Thirteen award recipients were recognized in a joint-nomination submitted by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Natural Resources Canada, for an innovative SAP financial management implementation that resulted in savings, internal controls and policy compliance. The winning team also received a $1,000 cheque to be donated to United Way Ottawa - their chosen charity. * The Award of Excellence for Comptrollership in the Public Sector showcases shining examples of innovative thinking, best practice development, thought-leadership and strategic insight. “These qualities are central to enhancing productivity and financial performance in the Federal Government,” said Joy Thomas, MBA, FCMA, C.Dir., President and CEO, CMA Canada. “We congratulate our winners and nominees for demonstrating such excellence in public sector financial management.” Also honoured was Rod Monette, FCA, MBA, B.Sc., Chair, Public Sector Accounting Board and former Comptroller General of Canada, who received the CMA-CIPFA Lifetime Achievement Award, and Ronald C. Thompson, FCA, B.Comm., former Assistant Auditor General and past Chair of the Canadian Comprehensive Audit Foundation, who received a special posthumous award. * The Lifetime Achievement Award honours a federal public servant who has made an outstanding contribution to financial management and comptrollership throughout their career, said Steve Freer, Chief Executive, CIPFA. “This celebration of service and achievement is an inspiration to us all.
