Nominations open for the second annual Award of Excellence for Comptrollership in the Public SectorNovember 4, 2009The Society of Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada) and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) have issued an open call for nominations from federal public servants to nominate colleagues and/or to self-nominate for the Award of Excellence for Comptrollership in the Public Sector.In its second year, the Award of Excellence for Comptrollership in the Public Sector includes two award categories: (1) Innovation, and (2) Financial Leadership (CFO). The annual awards, consisting of a plaque and a $1,000 donation to a charity or scholarship fund of the winners choice, are given to a federal public servant or team who has made a significant contribution to financial management and/or comptrollership within the Government of Canada. These awards celebrate the nominees ability to enhance the financial performance within the Government of Canada by using financial expertise, strategic insight and innovative thinking, said Joy Thomas, President and CEO, CMA Canada. For the newly created Financial Leadership (CFO) award, nominees will be evaluated based on their level of competence in the areas of strategy, management and accounting. In addition, consideration forms may be submitted for a Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, which is awarded at the discretion of the selection committee. The CMA-CIPFA Lifetime Achievement Award was established to recognize individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to financial management and/or comptrollership throughout their career, said Steve Freer, Chief Executive of CIPFA. In addition to starting a wonderful tradition, this award sets a very high benchmark for all those who follow. The 2010 selection committee is composed of distinguished public servants and industry experts.
