A dramatic reading of a searing, personal account of bombing of GazaJanuary 18, 2010Toronto, January 18, 2010 A dramatic reading of SEVEN DAYS FROM A GAZA DIARY, to commemorate the first anniversary of military assault by Israeli forces on Gaza from December 2008 into January 2009.Adapted by American playwright, Edward Mast, this performance for three female voices is taken from the diary of a young woman living in Gaza and covers the firsts seven days of the bombing (December 27, 2008 to January 2, 2009). The diarist is Khulood Ghanem, a 27 year-old woman living in Khan Younis in central Gaza. Written in Arabic, the first seven days were translated into rough but clear English by the diarist. This adaptation employs half the diary text for those seven days. Interspersed are excerpts selected by Mr. Mast from published reports issued during the past year by respected information sources or human rights organizations. Following performances in United States and publication on The Huffington Post, SEVEN DAYS FROM A GAZA DIARY will be performed in Toronto for one night only, on Saturday, January 30 at 6:00 p.m. Presented in association with Crow's Theatre the reading is directed by David Jansen with participation of Liza Balkan, Liisa Repo-Martell and Severn Thompson. Admission by donation - suggested $20; unwaged $5 - no one turned away. Proceeds will be shared with a fund for Khulood Ghanem to continue her training as an architect. The reading performance is the inaugural event for Beit Zatoun, a new culture and art venue located downtown.
