One Institute elevates queer and trans histories and embraces emerging stories thorugh collaborative education, arts and cultural programs.
Founded in 1952 as ONE, Inc. and the first issue of ONE Magazine published in 1953. In 1975, Jim Kepner's personal archives named the Western Gay Archives; in 1979, renamed the National Gay Archives; in 1984, renamed the Intarnational Gay & Lesbian Archives (ILGA). In 1994, ONE Inc merged with ILGA to become primarily an LGBTQ archive. In 2004, renamed ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives. In 2010, its collections become part of USC Libraries. In 2014, the organization (minus its archives) renamed One Institute.
