Provincial Towing Association of Ontario and the Ontario Recovery Group Applauds the Introduction of Bill 147

Toronto, ON – The Provincial Towing Association of Ontario (PTAO) and the Ontario Recovery Group (ORG Inc.) strongly supports the introduction of bill 147 an act to regulate the towing industry: This important Act would eliminate competing and often inadequate municipal licensing streams and create a powerful provincial consumer protection mechanism for all citizens.

“We’re absolutely thrilled that David Zimmer has chosen to re-introduce this bill. Each day, the situation on our roads gets worse and often the consumer is victimized. This bill will go a long way in ensuring those consumers are protected in a meaningful way,” Said Doug Nelson, Executive Director of the PTAO.

The bill, if passed, would create a public registry of tow truck operators, mandate a set of minimum operational safety protocols and create a powerful consumer complaints mechanism.

“This bill is great for our industry and wonderful for the public. It will help set a level playing field for operators – while also giving the public someone to turn to in the case of fraud, intimidation or exorbitant charges. In short it will give professional operators the legislative tools they need to ensure that all of our customers – in all parts of Ontario - are protected, treated with the utmost respect and charged reasonable fees: There is simply no downside to this act.” Says Joey Gagne, President.

Moving forward the PTAO and the ORG calls on the Ontario government and all parties in the legislature to support this very important Bill.
