Top 3 Tips to Build a Social Media ReputationOctober 26, 2011Toronto, Wednesday October 26th, 2011 - Have you ever struggled to arrive on time for a meeting only to be kept waiting as others wander in late? Or traveled to a distant store only to find that they closed early and your trip was fruitless? Responsiveness and reliability are the two most important determinants of service quality and if you are not reliable or responsive, your "brand" quickly reflects this. While most of us understand this implicitly in the real world, our behavior in the world of social media is often completely different. "There are several ways to be more reliable and responsive when being 'social' online," says Randall Craig, social media and web strategist, and author of six books including the Online PR & Social Media series. Craig offers these three tips: 1. Select a regular and consistent date and time to post your status updates and blog posts. Being on time, consistently, creates a positive expectation from followers and can improve credibility. 2. Maintain focus on your topic. If followers come to expect a particular type of content then it should be delivered consistently. Your favorite TV show is your favorite because all of the characters are consistent from episode to episode. 3. Set expectations on your interactions. Whatever your frequency for commenting, replying or responding should also be consistent. Your reputation is defined more by your behavior than anything else. If you are using any social media tools like status updates on Facebook, Twitter updates, Blog posts, etc., use the above tips to give your actions greater impact. Not only will it increase productivity, but it will also directly affect reputation. -30- Since 1994, Randall Craig has advised on web and social media strategy.
