Canadian Voice of Women demands an immediate ceasefireNovember 21, 2012Mainstream media headlines continue to report that the dead in Gaza are militants and that this is a war against militants. This form of biased reporting is inexcusable. At the close of November 19th, the Euro-Mid Observer for Human Rights reported that 110 Palestinians had been killed including 25 children, 14 senior citizens and 12 women. Seventy-two percent were civilians with no involvement in this offensive by the Israel military. A further 277 children, 164 women and 62 seniors are wounded. The hospitals in Gaza are in a frenzied state as medical supplies are running out and more and more wounded and dying are brought in. For the civilians, there is no safe place in the Gaza strip to hide. Any moving object can be a target for the military aircraft. Border crossing are closed and entry of basic goods, medical supplies, food, fuel are denied entry. The Canadian Voice of Women for Peace supports the United Nations demand for an immediate ceasefire. VOW is calling on the Canadian government and all opposition parties to act immediately to stop this bloodshed and end the offensive and the siege of Gaza. Border crossing must be opened for humanitarian aid, the safe passage of people, and the travel of emergency vehicles transporting the injured to nearby hospitals in the region. Civilians must be protected under the Law of Occupation.
