Women Activists Lobby MPs

March 8, 2016

On this International Women's Day Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW) is meeting with several Members of Parliament to encourage our 12 peace priorities.

VOW is calling on the Canadian Government to stop the arms deal with Saudi Arabia. Hannah Hadikin ( VOW Board of Directors) says, ”The government of Saudi Arabia is well known for its abuse of human rights. More people were beheaded last year by the Saudi government than by ISIL.”

VOW is asking our government to accede to the UN Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). We are calling this government to work toward nuclear abolition.

Lyn Adamson (VOW Board of Directors co-chair) says, “We need this government to act on a peace agenda for true security.”

VOW is asking for a foreign affairs sub-committee to scrutinize all arms trade.

On this International Women’s Day our priorities must be human development and communities free of violence.
