TORONTO, June 7, 2010 –Jonathan Prousky, naturopathic doctor and chief naturopathic medical officer at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine’s Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic, has received the 2010 Orthomolecular Doctor of the Year award. This is the first time in the award’s history that a naturopathic doctor has received this honour. The award was presented at the 39th Orthomolecular Medicine Today Conference recently held in Vancouver, B.C.

“Being the only ND, and the first to win this award is an incredible honour,” said Prousky.

Prousky is the editor of the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine and author of several books, including Principles and Practices of Naturopathic Clinic Nutrition, Naturopathic Nutrition: A Guide to Nutrient-Rich Food and Nutritional Supplements for Optimum Health, and Anxiety: Orthomolecular Diagnosis and Treatment. In his private practice, he focuses on mental health issues and clinical nutrition.

The award was presented to Prousky by the 2009 recipient, Aileen Burford-Mason, PhD, and Steven Carter, Director of the International Society for Orthomolecular Medicine. The inscription reads "For Advancing Orthomolecular Medicine by Illuminating the Natural Path as a Doctor, Educator, Author, Spokesperson and Editor".

Inaugurated in 1998, the Orthomolecular Doctor of the Year is awarded to an outstanding contributor in the field of Orthomolecular Medicine. Past recipients include Dr. Abram Hoffer, Dr. Hugh Riordan, and Dr. Harold Foster.
